Prestera Health Services and Kanawha Valley Collective to Open “The Living Room” in Charleston
Charleston, W.Va. — Prestera Health Services, in partnership with the Kanawha Valley Collective, will open The Living Room on February 16, 2026, at 1015 Smith Street in Charleston. The Living Room is a low-barrier engagement and recovery program designed to support adults impacted by opioid use disorder and other substance use challenges.
Centrally located and accessible by public transportation, The Living Room will provide a safe, welcoming, and stigma-free space for individuals facing complex barriers to treatment, including homelessness, recent incarceration or hospitalization, and disconnection from traditional care systems.
Services will be available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering flexible hours for individuals who work or have difficulty accessing care during standard business hours. Participants may walk in without an appointment, referral, insurance, or proof of readiness for treatment. Individuals may also be referred by community partners such as harm-reduction programs, shelters, hospitals, and law enforcement diversion initiatives.
The Living Room will offer harm reduction and recovery-oriented supports tailored to individual needs. Services include connections to medication-assisted treatment, detoxification, residential and outpatient care, and other behavioral health services. Case managers and peer recovery staff will assist participants with housing navigation, medical and mental health care, access to public benefits, overdose prevention education, naloxone distribution, and immediate needs such as food, hygiene supplies, and transportation.
The program is made possible through grant funding awarded to Prestera Health Services by the City of Charleston. The City has entered into an agreement with United Way of Central West Virginia, which serves as the fiscal agent responsible for overseeing the management and distribution of opioid settlement funds to local organizations addressing prevention, treatment, and recovery. Charleston’s grant process is guided by the Opioid Community Council and the West Virginia First Memorandum of Understanding, ensuring funds are used to support evidence-based, community-driven responses to the opioid crisis.
Serving as a hub within Charleston’s continuum of care, The Living Room will coordinate warm handoffs to community-based providers and maintain ongoing engagement to support stability and long-term recovery. By offering a consistent, low-barrier point of access, the program aims to reduce reliance on emergency and law enforcement systems while expanding pathways into treatment for individuals most impacted by the opioid crisis.
