HUNTINGTON, WV — October 2, 2026 — Prestera Health Services has been awarded $750,000 from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program to support suicide prevention efforts for veterans and their families across West Virginia.
The one-year federal grant represents a significant investment in expanding access to suicide prevention resources and strengthening connections to behavioral health services for veterans and their families. Through the grant, Prestera will serve an extensive geographic area encompassing communities across northern, central, southern, eastern and western West Virginia.
The Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program supports community-based suicide prevention efforts for veterans. The program is named in honor of Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox, a U.S. Army soldier.
Prestera brings extensive experience in suicide prevention and behavioral health to this work. Through Prevent Suicide West Virginia, Prestera has played a statewide role in advancing suicide prevention through education, prevention and intervention strategies, technical assistance and consultation, identification and referral of individuals at risk, and follow-up and support for individuals and families affected by suicide. Prevent Suicide West Virginia also works with organizations, communities and systems throughout the state to strengthen their capacity to recognize and respond to suicide risk and implement effective prevention strategies.
As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), Prestera provides an integrated continuum of behavioral health services designed to improve access, coordination and outcomes for individuals and families. Prestera’s continuum includes crisis services, outpatient mental health care, substance use disorder treatment, prevention programs, residential services and veteran-focused services, providing an important foundation for connecting individuals to appropriate care and support.
The new VA grant will build upon this existing infrastructure and expertise, allowing Prestera to further strengthen partnerships and connections among veterans, community organizations, suicide prevention resources and behavioral health services. Throughout the grant period, Prestera will work with community partners and other stakeholders to advance suicide prevention efforts and improve access to behavioral health resources for veterans across the designated service area.
