LEAD (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion)

Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) is a pre-booking initiative enabling law enforcement officers to offer low-level offenders rehabilitation instead of incarceration. LEAD aims to assist individuals struggling with substance use disorder by redirecting them from jails to treatment and recovery programs. This program reduces recidivism, lightens the workload of law enforcement, and enhances community safety. LEAD’s objectives include reducing drug-related crimes, decreasing recidivism rates, cutting county incarceration expenses, fostering better community-police relations, and lowering opioid overdose fatalities.
